Memorable Showers on a Budget

There’s excitement brewing—someone is getting married or having a baby! We have good news for you if you’re in charge of honoring that special person: Your event doesn’t have to break the bank.

Here are our top tips for creating memorable showers on a budget:

Ask for help

Remember, you’re not alone! Great showers are the result of teamwork, including family, bridesmaids and other close friends. Once the plan is in place, delegate tasks so you’re not overwhelmed with the arrangements.

Check into your favorite venues

Don’t assume you have to host at someone’s home to save money. Reach out to an event planner who will show you different options and price points. There’s something to be said for showing up, adding a few decorations, enjoying the party and heading home (no clean up!).

Be flexible about food

Don’t assume a plated event at a restaurant is out of reach. The event planner will work with you on a day of the week, time of day and menu that works with your budget. Options may include finger foods or hors d’oeuvres followed by a light meal, a buffet to get guests up and mingling or a more traditional sit-down affair. Be frank about your budget so the event planner can help you make the most of it, right down to dessert.

Create a theme—and make it personal

You know your guest of honor—is she “girly”? Into sports? Obsessed with the color lavender? A theme is a fun and easy way to tie the whole event together, from the save the date card to the party favors. Personalize it to your bride or mom-to-be—it’s a guarantee it will be more sentimental and memorable.

Decorate with flair

You can keep it simple (far simpler than a wedding!) and still nail the “wow factor.” Tie your theme together with eye-catching balloon displays; baby toys and books; simple seasonal flowers, plants, or produce and handmade touches. We all have that crafty friend who’s itching to do something—take her up on the offer! Ask your event planner what the venue can provide above and beyond linens and table setups, too.

Use photos—lots of photos

Pictures will bring smiles (and possibly a few happy tears) and up the personalization factor. Print images of the happy couple throughout their relationship, or of the parents-to-be as kids, and stage them around the venue. You can also ask that crafty friend to fashion them as centerpieces, or to string them together with mini clothespins on a string for a fun backdrop for presents.
