Meet Our Hospitality Designer: Allison Denny

If you’ve been to The Gables at Chadds Ford, we’re certain you’ve noticed that making you comfortable—on top of providing great seasonal cuisine, attentive service and memorable events—is in our DNA. We’ve got Southern roots and have created a space where hospitality rules.

We’ve taken the concept one step further than just our inviting ambience, thanks to our hospitality designer, Allison Denny. She adeptly handles many things with one result in mind: your happiness, whether you’ve come to us for a personal special event, a corporate meeting, a dinner date or cocktails on the patio.

“Two of my favorite things are decorating and making people comfortable,” she said. “As the hospitality designer, my focus is on entertaining, and creating a warm, welcoming and beautiful environment for our guests. My goal is to create an experience you’ll remember for a lifetime! Our casual, rustic elegance is the perfect venue for me to apply my creative vision and to help make memorable moments for our guests.”

Allison brings many talents to the job. She spent “a lifetime” in corporate marketing and advertising, giving her the foundation for her current position. But she also has a lifelong love for design and decorating, which she channeled into refinishing and “upcycling” furniture. That hobby turned into a business when she began selling her treasures.

“I got to know The Gables owner Ann Kolenick because my son, Carson, spent his high school years here as a busboy,” Allison added. “I’d also sold some items at an event here, which caught Ann’s eye. In December 2016, Carson let me know Ann was looking for someone to design and decorate the restaurant for the holidays. As the saying goes, the rest is history.”

Allison’s passion for creating beautiful things and unforgettable experiences is breathtakingly evident as you look around the restaurant. Mix that with her love for pleasing guests and it’s easy to see how her job grew from decorator into full-time hospitality designer. She now trains and manages hosts, keeps an eye on the front-of-house operations to exceed customer expectations, decorates for holidays and events of all sizes, and is the go-to person if a customer needs assistance.

“Flipping and making furniture is still my hobby, but we’re also turning that into something to benefit our guests,” Allison said. “At The Gables, we’re developing a growing inventory of rental items, which helps keep our events customers’ costs down. Rather than buy things like chalkboard signs, table numbers and decorations, and other decor, our customers can rent them. Couples, in particular, love that they don’t have to buy things they just won’t use after the wedding. Our event planners can fill you in on details and show off what we have in inventory.”

Besides turning “trash to treasure” in her spare time, Allison enjoys spending time with her children and her dogs, Mark and Buster. Carson, 18, is off to Kutztown University. Alexandria, 25, is a Drexel University Thomas R. Kline School of Law graduate. Paige, 13, has an eye on becoming a doctor.

The next time you stop at The Gables (and, we hope that’s soon!), or if you’re considering us for a special occasion, make sure to say hello to Allison. Her cheery, bright personality and sincere interest in serving our guests will keep you coming back for more.
