News flash: no reason is needed to come and enjoy at our cozy bar! Our attentive bartenders are ready to whip up your old standby and love to craft something new when you’re in the mood to explore. Remember to ask for food-and-libation pairing recommendations, too.
If you do need an excuse to belly-up at The Gables at Chadds Ford, no worries—we’ve got you. Our bar is open whenever we’re open for business. Happy Hour is wildly popular, but if you need a quiet space to chat, a place to hang with your besties, a casual date night or a quick drink and bite before or after hitting local attractions (or if you just need a break!), then you know where to find us. We’re waiting!
6 Reasons to Stop By Our Bar
1. Fantastic Flights
Variety is indeed the spice of life, and we’re happy to help you sample. Our bartenders love to make suggestions—just ask.
- Beer Flights: It’s just $10 for four 5 oz. pours (an additional buck for premium beers). Sit back with your favorites, or experiment with something new. Our beer list changes frequently, so check in often for the latest.
- Scotch and Bourbon Flights: It’s pay-as-you-go for four 1 oz. pours. You don’t have to be an aficionado, either. Beginners are welcomed (and encouraged!). We have a rotating selection of these well-aged beverages, so be prepared to be delighted.
2. A Wide Variety of Vinos
We curate an extensive wine list—including some of our very favorite reserve wines. You’ll find selections from around the world and those grown right in our own backyard, like Chaddsford Winery, Penns Woods Winery and Galer Estate. Special occasion? Choose the bubbly (you deserve it!).
Our bartenders love to mix it up, and we have the next-level martinis to prove it. We focus on seasonal, so you might find a Southern Bourbon Peach Tea Martini, a Chocolate Martini, a Spicy Gin Martini or an Espresso Martini among the many options. Want the original made with gin and vermouth? Vodka? An olive or a twist? Just let us know.
Nothing goes better with bar sips than bar bites. Ours fall into the hearty category, like Loaded Pimento Crab Dip with our house made bread; our Gables Burger piled high with bacon, fried onions and white cheddar; Confit Duck Fries smothered in white truffle duck gravy; or a Grilled Romaine Salad with our house-made Caesar dressing.
Relax, sit back and let us take care of you with very special pricing on nibbles and drinks at the bar and bar tables from 4:30–6:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. Grab draught beer at $2 off and glasses of wine at $3 off, and ask your bartender about the special menu item—depending on the day, it could be Smoked Filet Tips, our Turkey Burger, the Shrimp-n-Grits Martini or Atlantic Mussels. Sort of makes you want to stop in every day, right? (We’d love to see you!)
6. Gracious Southern Hospitality
This is perhaps the best reason of all to visit our bar. We’re simply bursting with pride when it comes to our impeccably trained staff. They’re knowledgeable, friendly and love serving our customers. Meet our team!
Dawn has been bartending for four decades—and we were lucky to snag her four years ago. She hails from Kennett Square and through the years has been behind the bar at virtually every type of establishment, from nightclubs to fine dining. Her favorite part of being at The Gables is working with our customers, especially those who’ve traveled into our area and have questions about its history. She also enjoys working for our owner, Ann Kolenick: one reason is Ann keeps staff up-to-speed on developing dishes by hosting dinners so they really get to know the food. That inside info helps all bartenders and servers best take care of you, our customer.
Favorite drink: When you stop by and see Dawn, ask about her favorite drink, the house made Limoncello. (Pssst—she makes it!)
It’s likely you’ll see Dawn behind the bar when you visit, but depending on the day you may also meet Gretchen. She’s been with us since September 2015 and considers interacting with everyone who comes into the bar—and especially meeting new people—her favorite part of the job.
Favorite drink: Gretchen recommends the Chocolate Martini (her personal favorite!).
Last, but certainly not least, you may see our assistant manager and server Mindy turning out a cocktail or two. We’re a family here, and we pitch in to make your experience seamless, so keep an eye out for Mindy.
Favorite drink: the Nectarine Martini.
